What makes Mount Clear’s weather different?
Sitting about 450 metres above sea level on the southern edge of Ballarat, Mount Clear experiences a cool temperate climate with four distinct seasons. Its elevation means temperatures here are often a few degrees cooler than in central Ballarat, and fog can linger into late morning during autumn and winter. The area’s proximity to the Great Dividing Range also makes it prone to swift changes when cold fronts sweep through.
When do the seasons turn?
Summer (December–February) brings mild days with average highs around 25°C, but afternoon thunderstorms are not unusual. Autumn sees a gradual drop, with March often delivering the year’s most stable weather. Winter (June–August) is the wettest and coldest: overnight lows can fall to 3°C, and frost is common on clear mornings. Spring is famously changeable – one day warm and sunny, the next blustery with rain.
Does Mount Clear ever get snow?
Light snowfalls occur once or twice most winters, usually during cold fronts that push across the region. Accumulation is rarely more than a few centimetres and melts quickly by midday.

Late summer and early autumn (February to April) offer the most reliable fine weather with warm days and lower rainfall. Spring can be lovely but expect variable conditions.
